Luxor Group remembers it’s founder DK Jain

Verse 7, chapter 3 of The Bhagavad Gita, “With determination and command over senses, a true karmayogi embarks on the right path of action.” Today wife Usha DK Jain and Luxor Group of Companies is remembering it’s founder DK Jain.

Davinder Kumar Jain was born in the holy city of Amritsar on 19th February 1943, later as a student leader in Delhi University he unknowingly prepared for the role he was destined in the future and then at a very young age of 19 years he began pursuing history in the year 1962 with a meager amount of Rs. 5,000 he set up a small manufacturing in Delhi’s Sadar Bazaar. He gave his dream a name Luxor. Jain’s passion for writing instruments was showing positive results. He soon married Usha Jain.

Today under the leadership of daughter Pooja Jain acting as managing director the group continues to grow from strength to strength. DK Jain paved the way forward for the writing instruments industry from permanent markers, whiteboard markers and colouring pens for children, from highlighters to every day writing pens. Not only did he introduced the best value products he indigenized and backward integrated all processes of manufacturing from ink to pen tips, other design moudling and assembly at Luxor.

He brought Pilot back from Japan in 1982. Jain’s fascination with Parker since the days of childhood was behind the partnership with Gillette in 1996 which brought the Parker legacy to India. With a launch of Waterman Paris in 2003, he established a presence in the ultra premium segment of writing instruments.

His distinguished persona attracted like-minded individual like film actor Amitabh Bachchan, who became the first brand ambassador of Luxor. Remembering DK Jain on his death anniversary, Amitabh said, “Jain sahab started off some many many years ago with very humble beginnings, a victim in many ways of the unfortunate partition of the country and he narrated to me how he started his business by saying that he was working on streets soon after the partition happened to just accidentally come across a sort of ruinous area where he touched lots of pen fell out and that’s when he and his father decided that this would be their business of the future. I think it’s a very inspiring moment for anybody’s life and to start off from that moment and to build an entire empire around Parker pens & Luxor is indeed a great story”.

Jain kept his spiritual side alive, the philosophy and principles of Jainism were close to his heart and he was a true believer in karma. He also started Luxor Foundation which provides scholarships to children and vocational training to the aspiring youth of India. His pioneering spirit took Luxor into diversified sectors like real estate, retail shop-in-shop and cleaning solutions resulting in similar success stories.

Remembering her father, managing director of Luxor Group Pooja Jain said, “Being mentored for more than 19 years on both business principles and values by my father Shri DK Jain I am humbly taking steps towards accomplishing his vision for Luxor Group of Companies. Luxor stands committed towards its Make in India endeavour and fulfilling Mr. Jain’s dream for both India and international markets moving with success year by years as lives on with all of us today.
