CARA is one and only official portal for adoption in India. Illegal adoptions through any other way will be punishable. CARA functions under Ministry of Women and Child Development.
CARA works as the government agency for adoption of Indian children and is assigned to audit and control in-country and inter-country adoptions. It is entitled as the Central Authority to handle with inter-country adoptions in agreement with the allocation of the Hague Convention on Inter-country Adoption, 1993, authorized by Government of India in 2003. CARA principally handles with adoption of orphan, abandoned and surrendered children through its connected /identified adoption agencies.
