Inspired by predecessor of Bharatiya Janata Party, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana has benefited 1.5 crore women from BPL (Below Poverty Line) households to help them their due respect and dignity.
This Government welfare scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 1 2016 with an ambition to equip women below the poverty line with 5 crore LPG (Liquefied petroleum gas) connections in India. The scheme was also targeted to protect the health of women and young children. It has been recorded that impure cooking fuel has caused severe health risk in India.
